2003 Aprilia Tuono R

Aprilia Tuono R 2003 — Overview & Key Info

The 2003 Aprilia Tuono R is a legendary naked sportbike that blends the raw performance of a superbike with a more upright, street-friendly riding position. Built on the same platform as the RSV Mille R superbike, the Tuono R offers thrilling power and precision handling while ditching the full fairings for a minimalist, aggressive look.

Engine & Performance

At its heart is a 998cc, liquid-cooled 60-degree V-twin engine producing around 126 horsepower and 101 Nm of torque, making it a beast on both the street and the track. The smooth but powerful delivery combined with the race-bred 6-speed gearbox gives riders excellent control and performance.

Handling & Suspension

The Tuono R’s chassis is a lightweight aluminum twin-spar frame designed for sharp handling. It comes equipped with premium Öhlins suspension both front and rear — a 43mm titanium-nitride coated upside-down fork up front and a fully adjustable rear shock — giving superb stability and feedback.

Braking duties are handled by dual 320mm Brembo discs with radial-mounted 4-piston calipers upfront, ensuring excellent stopping power.

Design & Ergonomics

Unlike full sportbikes, the Tuono R has a more upright riding position, which reduces rider fatigue and improves comfort on longer rides, while still keeping a sporty feel. The bike’s naked styling — stripped-down bodywork and exposed frame — gives it a raw, aggressive aesthetic.

Rarity & Collectibility

The 2003 model was a limited edition with only 200 units made worldwide, 50 of which were for the U.S. market, making it a rare and highly sought-after bike among collectors and enthusiasts.
